This just in...

I may go into social work instead of journalism.

I'm having an "all my friends are married-I'm 26 with no marriage prospects-I have to figure out my freaking life for myself-what will make me happy and keep me progressing if I never get to be a wife and mother" crisis/melt-down/freak-out.

I love to write. But only about things I'm passionate about. And I'm passionate about people and their struggles and triumphs. So...social work. I'm serious about this idea.

You know, you have a pretty healthy following on your blog. What's so different about "real" writing, and your style of blogging? And, I know you didn't ask for this, but here comes some Aunt Nancy advice: The exact "title" of your graduate program has less to do with where you "end up" than grabbing the most attractive strands of opportunity that come your way, and seeing where they take you. Essays give you an opportunity to write out what you are hoping and dreaming and looking for, not "tests" of what you already know. Your future professors want to know if you already think you have the world by the tail, or if there's room in your life for their investment in you. I'd say, (even if I didn't already know and love you), that you are definitely worth the investment. The wide open expanse of where you could end up, and what you could contribute to the quality of life for many or for a few, make you a really great candidate! Go for it... send off that application, to any place that makes you happy to see yourself there! (Just my ten cents' worth, but sent with love!).

Aunt Nancy,

You may not come back to read this comment, but I love your comments and I welcome your wisdom and advice. I always have, so thanks for taking the time. It's comforting and reassuring. :)
